The 1200m diameter, 170m deep Barringer Crater (Meteor Crater) in northern Arizona was created by a 50m wide meteorite about 50000 years ago. Note (for a sense of scale) that the white smudge towards the centre is a large mining compound from various attempts to extract the nickel-iron meteorite remnant.
