As there are so many great players, I had to restrict myself to a squad of 25. I also added one restriction - that the players have performed on the biggest stage of world football, the World Cup finals. This means that such talent as George Best and Alfredo di Stefano are not included.
I've also tried to avoid filling the team up with modern players, who have yet to prove their position as an all-time great, although I am sure the likes of Thierry Henry, Ronaldinho, Paulo Maldini and Figo could easily join this team.
These players are my personal favourites. Each one of them a legend of the game.
Between them they have 26 World Cup winners' medals, over 650 international goals in more than 2000 games and 30 World, European and South American footballer of the year awards.
The full squad is listed on the right, but the All-Star XI, with a free-flowing 4-4-2 formation, has also been given. Click on a player to bring up stats and a biography.
